About NERA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Just as groups in a local area come together in an Intergroup to serve their area, so Intergroups come together to serve their Region and SA on the national and international level where the numbers of Intergroups warrant a Regional Assembly. (SA Service Manual<\/a>, Chapter Eight).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Northeast Regional Assembly (NERA) is to represent and serve Intergroups in the following states and provinces:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

USA<\/strong>: Connecticut, Massachusetts<\/a>, Maine, New Hampshire<\/a>, New York<\/a>, Rhode Island, Vermont<\/a>
Canada<\/strong>: New Brunswick<\/a>, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia<\/a>, Ontario<\/a>, Prince Edward Island<\/a>, Quebec<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purpose<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The service provided at the regional level mirrors the service provided at the Intergroup level. Intergroup representatives come together periodically at a Regional Assembly in order to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Facilitate contact with SA\u2014both for newcomers and for those members traveling or relocating\u2014by helping Intergroups coordinate their phone and\/or website referral systems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Communicate information about the status of the constituent Intergroups and develop a service relationship between IGRs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Sponsor events such as weekend conferences and retreats, Step study workshops and marathon days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Discuss concerns and solutions affecting the Region and SA as a whole and, if needed, bring motions to the General Delegate Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Elect one or more* General Assembly Delegates (GAD) from the IGRs to represent the Region at the General Delegate Assembly (GDA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*Each Region receives representation at the GDA level according to the number of meetings in the region. The constitution of the GDA may, from time to time, be altered to fit demographic and population concerns. Currently, each Region is entitled to one Assembly Delegate. A Region with 100-150 meetings may choose to have two Delegates. A Region with between 150-200 meetings may choose to have three Delegates, and so on, in increments of 50 meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We need you. There are plenty of service opportunities, for volunteers\u2014to work on projects, e.g., to maintaining this website\u2014and elected officers to do 12th<\/sup> Step work aligned with our primary purpose, principles, traditions and service concepts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sobriety length requirement for voting members, such as secretary, treasurer and intergroup representatives (IGRs), is two years. The sobriety requirement for non-voting members, who can serve on committees chaired by voting members, is up to NERA’s group conscience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regardless of the service position or voting status, we focus on SA unity: This we owe to SA’s future, to place our common welfare first, to keep our Fellowship united, for on SA’s unity depends our lives and the lives of those to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For more information on the service positions, please contact your IGR or attend a NERA meeting as an observer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Can Each SA Carry the Message?<\/strong> (From the SA Service Manual<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without sobriety we have nothing. The primary purpose of every SA group is to carry the message to the \u201cstill suffering.\u201d We must carry our message in order to secure our continued sobriety and recovery, and we can only carry what we have to others (\u201cA Vision for You,\u201d AA 164).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Spirituality of Service<\/strong> (SA Service Manual<\/a>, Chapter Four)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Fellowship, we discover, sits on a \u201cThree-legged Stool,\u201d each leg representing one of the three legacies of Sexaholics Anonymous: Recovery, Unity, and Service. Without Service, the stool teeters on two legs; with it, the stool is steady and grounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Service Rotation<\/strong> (adapted from the AA Service Manual<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traditionally, rotation ensures that service positions, like nearly everything else in A.A., are passed around for all to share. Many positions have alternates who can step into the service positions if needed. To relinquish a service position, especially if we enjoy it and are doing a good job, can be difficult. If you have been doing a good job, if you honestly don\u2019t see anyone else around willing, qualified, or with the time to do it, and if your friends agree, it\u2019s especially tough. But it can be a real step forward in growth\u2014a step into the humility that is, for some people, the spiritual essence of anonymity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
